DEVELOPMENT OF THE TUBULAR BREAST

The reason for a tubular breast is stuck fascia and hardened connective tissue structures. During puberty, the growing gland is unable to resist this hardening and seeks the path of least resistance – a tubular breast develops instead of a round glandular body. Depending on the number of quadrants affected, as well as the degree of underdevelopment, 4 different degrees of severity of tubular breast are distinguished.

PLANNING THE CORRECTION OF THE TUBULAR BREAST

During a detailed consultation, we plan the procedure together according to your wishes and the anatomical possibilities. With the help of a 3D scan made during the consultation – for those who cannot wait any longer: You can also perform the scan online in advance at home – we will then go through the various technical options for the surgery. Since we have different implants available – depending on the indication – we will also explain the differences and specifications in detail.

OPERATIVE CORRECTION OF THE TUBULAR BREAST

The operation takes place in a day clinic under general anesthesia in the private clinic Währing in the 18th district in Vienna. The latest surgical techniques make it possible to leave the clinic without drains just a few hours after the procedure. The surgery itself takes about 1.5 hours. The correction of the shape of the tubular breast is usually done through an incision around the areola (=periareolar breast lift) – in rare cases an incision in the underbust crease, or a T-cut is also necessary.

THE FOLLOW-UP TO THE TUBULAR BREAST

Directly on the day after the operation, the first check-up takes place in our practice in Vienna’s 19th district. Here we change all the plasters, check whether the support bra fits well, and of course answer any susceptible questions. After 5 days there is another short control – after that showering is allowed again. One week after the surgery the stitches are removed and you may start with the scar care. If you are prone to increased scarring, we can treat it with laser and medical needling (cost € 90,- per treatment).

The support bra should be worn for a total of 6 weeks – sports & heavy lifting should also be avoided for this long.

THE TREATMENT

The term breast augmentation does not describe all the possibilities for improving a new, female body image. After pregnancies or heavy weight gain and loss, there is often a desire to give the breast more volume again. Patients with tubular breasts, also called tube or trunk breasts, want a rounder shape instead of the pointed shape. There are many different implants and techniques that produce different results. We will discuss which technique and implant is right for you in a joint consultation. The 3D scan can show you exactly the breast you want.

THE IMPLANTS – SAFETY FROM EUROPE.

Most of all women decide to have a breast augmentation with silicone implants. I have had very good and long-standing experience with implants from the German company Polytech, which are very stable, reliable, tried and tested over many years and of high quality.

The advantages of Polytech implants are:

  • Premium implants produced in Europe
  • High lightness and shape stability
  • Good wearing comfort and excellent tolerance
  • No “expiry date” – however, regular control by ultrasound is recommended.

This new generation of silicone implants is lighter, has a better feel, is made of a more dimensionally stable gel and is more robust. They are characterised by a high standard of quality and safety. The latest implants integrate better into the female breast, the silicone gel adapts to the natural movement of the body.

I also use the so-called B-Lite implants.

The advantages of B-Lite implants:

The mixture of microspheres and silicone gel makes the implants not only 30 percent lighter, but also firmer. This prevents an undesirable “rippling” effect. This effect occurs when implants create ripples that can be seen through the surface of the skin.

The firmer material of the B-Lite implants prevents this annoying “rippling” effect. However, the changed structure in the silicone gel also means that the breasts feel firmer and slightly less natural.

There are round and teardrop shapes. The difference lies in the manufacturing process, which is why anatomical implants are usually also firmer and more dimensionally stable than round implants. The disadvantage of the prefabricated shape is a deformation of the breast should the implant rotate.

The implant is placed during the operation under a light anaesthetic, directly under the muscle, dualplane (partially under the muscle) or under the gland.

With the right choice of implant, method and a lot of experience, the risk of possible dents or bumps can be minimised and prevented.

The anatomical implant (upper picture) has the special feature that 65 percent of the volume is in the lower pole, whereas with the round implant (lower picture) the distribution is 50:50. This means that the upper pole is emphasised more with round implants than with anatomical implants.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AND AFTER THE OPERATION.

The breast augmentation procedure takes place in Vienna in a day clinic and under general anaesthesia. Depending on the method and technique, the operation takes 1-1.5 hours. Nowadays, an overnight stay in the clinic is no longer necessary for medical reasons. You can usually leave the clinic on the same day. Our patients are very happy to stay overnight if the journey is long or if you simply want a night’s rest from everyday life. When you are discharged, you will be given a support bra to wear for 6 weeks. You can reach my team and me at any time if you have any questions. Further check-ups in the surgery are important in order to optimally accompany the healing process. After 2-3 days the plaster is changed and after about 2 weeks the sutures are gently removed. Until the stitches are removed, you should avoid sport and do not get the stitches wet.

If you are prone to increased scarring, we can treat this with laser or medical needling (costs € 90,-/session).

After a successful operation and waiting for the healing process, you will have no pain, can breastfeed and do any sport without any problems.
