Selfie Alarm: The focus is on the cheeks

The number of cheek corrections has doubled in the past year. The cheeks are increasingly becoming the focus. The reason for this is above all the social media, such as Instagram and Facebook, which demand the perfect selfie. To optimize facial features, aesthetic dermatology and surgery can help. The goal here is to create perfectly sculpted cheeks while still maintaining a natural look.

I want more volume.

To fill flat or sunken by the aging process cheeks, you can use filler. For this purpose, highly concentrated Hyaluronic acid filler or filler with polycaprolactone (Ellansé) – a longer-lasting substance that also degrades again – are used. Modern fillers are introduced by cannula technique or microfine needles. Each patient is individual, so it takes a lot of experience to set the fillers in the right area to the right amount.

I want firmer facial features.

A much gentler and scar-free alternative to the conventional facelift are Threadlifts. Sunken cheeks can be lifted with a thread lift, as long as lost volume has been sufficiently replaced. There are several types of thread lifts, using threads of various lengths and thicknesses.

  • PDO threads

Wrinkles that are not treatable with hyaluronic acid or botulinum toxin can in many cases be smoothed with PDO threads. For all common threads, the dissolution process, which leads to small scarring when degraded in the tissue, is the same. These maintain the lifting effect to some degree despite the thread being dislodged. The insertion of PDO threads also naturally stimulates the body’s own collagen production. If you are realistic, you have to say that a result after a PDO thread lift has disappeared after a few months.

  • APTOS threads

In contrast to PDO threads, APTOS threads or silhouette threads, the introduced threads are fixed in the depth of the tissue via a small incision, and there is usually also a small amount of skin removal. This type of lifting is particularly suitable for patients who also have a certain excess of skin. The result of the 1-stitch yarn lift lasts much longer, namely up to several years.

  • Thread lift with Cones

In this case, a resorbable thread provided with tiny barbs is guided under the skin along the cheek line and fixed by means of a needle. Then the doctor tightens the affected area with the help of the thread. The result is a more intense lifting effect lasting up to 18 months.

  • Risk of thread lifting

Blue spots and swelling may persist. The threads used here are eg. Silhouette threads of polylactic acid, or Aptos threads of polycaprolactone.

I want stronger contours.

To improve the elasticity of the skin on the cheeks, the non-invasive Ultherapy® method is particularly suitable. It is highly focused ultrasound, which also reaches the lower layers of the skin and stimulates the formation of new collagen. Ultherapy® is an alternative for all patients who do not want to undergo a surgical face-lift, but who want a lifting effect and have little skin excess. The tissue is strengthened from the inside by means of focused ultrasound, since the formation of its own collagen is stimulated. Risk: Pain-sensitive patients feel the treatment stronger, it can possibly lead to swelling.
